If the original version of the Oppo A59 from 2016 couldn’t possibly impress anyone nowadays, the guys from Oppo considered a good idea to release a brand new version of the phone. Therefore, the 2023 version of the Oppo A59 has been unveiled by the Chinese company for the Indian market, and the new phone has nothing in common with the original version from 2016.
Priced at only about 160 euros, the 2023 version of the Oppo A59 is far from being a flagship. But even so, it can still get the job done for pretty much any person who’s new to the field of smartphones. The new phone relies on a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset, meaning an octa-core CPU. It’s not fantastic, but it can be everything you need if you don’t have high expectations from a smartphone.
Oppo A59 runs on Android 13 out of the box
The 2023 version of the Oppo A59 comes equipped with Android 13 out of the box, and there’s no mention of a possible upgrade to Android 14. The phone also comes in two possible RAM versions (4GB and 6GB), as well as a 128GB storage version. In case you buy the new Oppo A59 and you need even more storage space, you can also add a microSDXC memory card.
The display of Oppo’s new phone is also decent, as it’s an IPS LCD panel of 90Hz for the refresh rate, 480 nits (typ), and 600 nits (HBM). The display measures 6.56 inches, while it also has a resolution of 720×1612 pixels.
The main camera of the Oppo A59 consists of a dual-lens setup. There’s a wide 13MP camera of f/2.2 and PDAF and a 2MP f/2.4 depth lens. The camera features for the rear setup are panorama, LED flash, and HDR.
The selfie camera, on the other hand, consists of a single 8MP wide lens of f/2.2. Both the rear and the selfie cameras are able to record Full HD videos at 30fps.
The battery of the new Oppo A59 is surprisingly good, as it reaches 5,000mAh. It features 33W wired charging, while it can be charged more than half in half an hour.
The new Oppo A59 stands out for featuring IP54 dust and splash resistance, while it also has some interesting sensors such as the side-mounted fingerprint, proximity, accelerometer, and compass.
The 2023 version of the Oppo A59 represents a massive upgrade compared to the 2016 version of the same phone. The previous device had only Android 5.1 and a MediaTek MT6750 (28 nm) processor, just to say the least.
