Future iPhones and iPads Might Ditch the Touch ID Function and Embrace Face ID

Entering and especially memorizing a PIN number to unlock your iPhone can certainly be a bit uncomfortable and not to mention obsolete, considering that in 2023, there are much more modern ways to secure your smartphone. One of those modern ways is certainly the Touch ID function, which can be seen on both iPhones and many Android devices. Unlocking your phone by simply touching the sensor with your unique fingerprint is surely a lot more comfortable than memorizing a PIN number. But guess what? Apple seems to be willing to spoil the fun and remove that feature from future iPhones. What a bummer!

Instead, Apple plans to use the Face ID function as the main way to unlock future iPhones and iPads, as a new post from an integrated circuit expert via Weibo and discovered by MacRumors reveals. If the information is true, it means that the upcoming iPhone 16, which will be Apple’s flagship series of 2024, won’t rely on the Touch ID function.

Apple has already shut down its equipment used for building the chips for Touch ID

Before being tempted to take the news with a grain of salt, you must know that according to the source mentioned above, most of Apple’s equipment that was used to manufacture the chips needed for the Touch ID function has been permanently shut down by the Cupertino-based tech giant. This is a huge indication that Apple is taking its plan seriously, and while there’s not much to be done if you’re not a fan of ditching Touch ID, you can just stick to an iPhone that already has that function.

According to reports, the upcoming and fourth iPhone SE model will be equipped with the Face ID function, which is an indication that unlocking those smartphones won’t be possible by using your fingerprint. However, Apple has plenty of sins to wash off when it comes to the iPhone SE series, which means that it’s practically mandatory for the tech giant to offer other ways of unlocking these phones than just by pointing your face at them.

On the other hand, there are rumors out there claiming that Apple is preparing under-display fingerprint technology for some of its future devices and that the first iPhones being capable of such implementations will launch in 2026. In other words, only time will tell for sure what Apple is planning for its upcoming iPhones!

Is Apple trying to control us? Surely, the news of the Cupertino-based tech giant’s effort to ditch the Touch ID function will spark controversies and ignite the imagination of conspiracy theorists, as they might interpret that the company aims to know the true identity of each of its users as long as it will push the Face ID function for its upcoming iPhones and iPads.
