Last month, we shared the news regarding the upcoming arrival of the Fairphone 5 model and some of its specs. It was known at that point that the device would be featuring 8GB of RAM, which is pretty impressive, even for a smartphone released in 2023. We also found out that the phone will be powered by Android 13 out of the box, which means that the upgrade to Android 14 should be a walk in the park.
Meanwhile, Fairphone 5 has gone official, and we are even more impressed now by what it has to offer. The phone harnesses the power of 5G, while it also stands out for 50MP cameras that are capable of taking pictures both wide and ultrawide.
Software updates for the next eight years
Fairphone 5 will be getting software updates for the next eight years. Surely, you might be thinking, “how can a phone last that long?” Well, this phone surely has that potential since it’s easy to repair. The manufacturer will teach the customer everything he needs to know in order to repair the phone by himself. More and more companies seem to have understood that everybody is hesitant when it comes to letting their phones in the hands of a stranger at a GSM center, even though the person working there is a professional. While Apple and Samsung apply a similar policy for their customers, there’s no wonder why smaller brands plan to follow suit.
Five years of warranty
Five years of warranty for a smartphone is another thing that you don’t hear every day, but Fairphone 5 breaks that rule. Most smartphones out there have warranties that last for just one year.
The good news is not over yet when it comes to what Fairphone 5 has to offer. The manufacturer also promises at least five updates for the operating system of the phone. This is another argument that the upgrade to Android 14 is just around the corner.
The previous Fairphone 4, on the other hand, was released back in October 2021. It stands out for a 48 MP main camera sensor, 6 to 8 GB of RAM, while it is powered by the Snapdragon 750G 5G processor. Fairphone 4 also comes with Android 11 out of the box, while it can be upgraded only to Android 12.
